Venice and cousin Amy!

Today Sean and I were able to go to Venice and meet up with my cousin Amy who is in a town several hours south in Italy for the summer! It was great to see her and it seems like she is doing great! We also had another couple and their young daughter from the base and who also goes to Bible study with Laura go with for the day! We met up in the morning and was able to take one of the ferry's out to a couple of the other Islands in the area including the famous glass blowing island. We also went to Burona which is beautiful but my camera battery died shortly after getting to Venice...ops :( I did get a chance through to catch a picture of Sean sleeping on the train! :) It was great to see family and we are hoping that she can come and stay with us at some point! Anyway that is all for now, enjoy the rest of your afternoon.

Job opportunity

Hey,
It's been a very busy couple of days but wanted to write a quick note before bed. Tomorrow we are waking up early to go and hang out with my cousin Amy in Venice! We are excited about it and it will be so great to see her! I was able to go to the library today and check out some books on traveling in Venice for maps and for just more facts that we did not have the first time we went together!
So I was able to put in an application with one of the university's on the base which would be a great job! I will let you know more about it but just give it over to God and I believe if this is not road he has then he will reveal something else. I am excited about it as it sounds like a fun job that would offer some good challenges (Hannah you're right I like the word challenges). We are praying that whatever God has for me in this job search that we will be open to what he has to teach us!
Sean finished his first week on the new job and loves it so far! He has very set hours and only works 8 hour days :) We have also been able to have lunch together a couple times throughout the week as I try not to leave the base to much in order to not use more gas.
I was able to go to a running clinic that Sean was going to go to with me but then he had already been so I went alone. It was helpful because the guy had trained several marathon runners and was able to help with my running form and some needed changes, along with help with shoe type needed, stretches, and different training aspects!
That's all for now because we have to wake up in a couple of hours! Have a great rest of your Friday afternoon!

Counseling talk

It is midway through the week and we have both been pretty busy! Today I have had to run to several different classes and appointments and then tonight we have a lot of stuff at the chapel. They give us free food at 5pm which we can now go to since Sean gets off work at 5pm :) Then Sean and I are going to meet with the senior high youth group to go over a book for this week and then the following week and then there will be a break for the summer! I was able to take a salsa work out class today right after Bible study which was really cool.
Yesterday was so exciting for me as I was able to sit down with one of the counselors on base and talk about job opportunities. The problem with this particular counseling method is they are contracted to meet at different bases and are there for 45 to 60 days at a time. They are not stationed at one base with the exception of a couple of bases. I talked with her about my past expereience and she shared her many years of experience which was very interesting and it was fun just to feel like my therapist self again for a short amount of time :) I am going to contact them and see if I can apply for a counseling position through their agency which is mhn. There are many things I would need to do and look into but it's always a possibility. I am still waiting on the University of Phoenix position as she leaves the last day in May and they would probably be having interviews that week. I have not yet heard anything.
I'm still waiting for my visa as buckley truly goofed up and sent the visa to the wrong address over here and are just praying that it gets to us! We continue to enjoy our time together and are both so thankful that Sean has this new job and can have more and set time with me!
Tomorrow we both are going to a running clinic that the base offers that helps find the appropriate running shoe and just helps with health information and running form and everything that will help with possibly doing another marathon.
It's been great to hear from you guys when you get a chance to email! Miss you and will keep blogging!

New Job

Hello,
Sorry it's been so long since a last posting but it has been a very busy week or so. Today Sean actually begins a new job that will keep his hours to working a normal work day and is just much more family friendly. He was working 12 hour shifts and it went longer at times and shorter and so I had was in the parking lot writing letters or reading waiting for him to be done at the time he was suppose to be off. I was able to get many things done waiting but am happy that he has a job that is more consistent and not as draining for him.
The last week or so has really been mainly working, eating, and then sleeping for Sean. I was running around attempting to continue to contact people about jobs and get involved in some different volunteer opportunities on base. I am actually going to start working with the high school group at the chapel for the last couple of weeks of the school year in leading a book discussion around "More than a Carpenter" on Wednesday nights as Sean works on sound. I am also learning how to cook....It seems that many people here love to cook and I just agree to help when asked. I have learned some things and Sean and I definitely don't go hungry but God is working in my heart to enjoy this but I do enjoy being around the people!
So random fact that I keep forgetting to mention are the rabits here...WOW....they are the size of dogs...If anyone knew my dog Ginger growing up these "rabits" are just a little bit bigger then her. I think they are actually jack rabits...they are huge!
This up and coming Saturday we are going to meet up with my cousin Amy who is also in Italy but just for the summer and we are going to go to Venice again! We are going to be able to take along some history or travel books with us this time to help us understand the city better!
Hope all is well and would love to hear from you all!

Long Days

Well, this week was full of gruesome work. After working 12s all week (even on my birthday :(...), we got to go to bible study over at a friend's house. It was quite a fun time. We had some awesome steak and Laura baked a wonderful lemon and raspberry cake for my birthday.

Yesterday we got to sleep in and enjoy a nice slow morning. Later in the morning I decided to drag Laura to Venice kicking and screaming (actually she was excited :D ). We took the train and ate some gelato upon arrival. Walking towards San Marco Square we stopped at a nice pizza joint and had ourselves some delicious diavola pizza. Candy was right after that and then we went to the square. After chasing some pidgeons around the square I walked Laura around and we listened to the bands play some classical music. We saw the Italian military perform a retreat ceremony of the flags in the square. Heading back, we took the long way around, got a little lost, and finally found our way back to the gelato stand for some more deliciousness :D.

It was quite a fun day to bring an end to a stressful week. Thank God for bringing me such an awesome wife!

Sean.

Wild Boars

I am continuing to work on finding a job and have a couple of leads with good timing! There is a position that is openning up in about a month in which I will then have my visa and my papers that allow me to work on base! Had the position been open now I would not have been able to take that job, but of course I might not get that one but God is taking care of things and I am not concerned.
I have been able to continue with the women's bible study and have been able to spend some time outside of there getting to know some of the women which has been a huge support! We went for a hike yesterday and I asked about mountain lions in jest as coming from Colorado we had them. They joked about the wild boars and about how they had personally never seen one since being here...well as we reached the church on the hill I went back onto the path to get a cool picture and I hear a lot of noise and look behind me and wow wild boars. Those things are huge...well they are at least about 3 feet tall (somewhere) around there and had huge horns. So I had a yikes moment and then they just ran past me. Wild boars...interesting. I will have to download some of the hiking pictures at a later time as I am now on base. So I also found out yesterday an interesting fact about Avaino air base...65 percent of the women on base are pregnent...wow.
Sean's birthday is tomorrow and he has to work his regular 12 hour day and then we are going to our Friday night Bible study in which we have found several friends. We will probably celebrate on Saturday particially by sleeping in as he has worked an extra long week!
Hope you guys are doing well! I'll add some more pictures later!

One last driving fact

Here in Italy they have two police officers that pull you over I learned last week. One guy to step into the road to tell you to pull over and the other holds a machine gun to shoot at your tires may you decide to try and speed away from the police. Don't worry mom they just are suppose to hit your tires and I would definitely stop.
So this week Sean is working long hours which basically means both of us waking up really early...kinda like when I worked at Starbucks! Our weeks here have actually been pretty busy. Sean is doing the sound board for the chapel services which keeps us busy on Wednesday nights and Sundays and we have Bible study on Friday nights. We have found some Christians here and have been able to build some positive friendships and have found some support in those relationships.
We received word that my (Laura's) visa finally arrived and we should be getting soon in Italy which will then mean that I can try and find a job. I have some leads but now I can be more proactive. Today I helped out with making burritos for the guys on base with some of the women at church and tomorrow we deliver them? I don't know we didn't do it today??? Basically I'm finding ways to volunteer and keep busy through the midst of continuing to try and find a job and get to know people especially while Sean is working.
Last weekend we were able to get out and see more of the area which just seems more and more beautiful!
We know it's about bed time here as the singing man just passed by a little bit ago. There is an elderly very much DRUNK old man that comes from the center of Cordenons (we know that because we have seen him there on several different occasions at cafes or bars) singing at the top of his lungs in Italian, it's great! (not the drunk part).
