Driving

So I sat through a couple of hours meant to terrify you into driving safely on the roads of Italy and the problem was that I am already pretty scared. There are definitely different rules as one being that if someone wants to pass you and there is a car coming from the other direction they will create a middle lane and I would be responsible to slow down or stop if need be so the car would go around. People make three lanes all the time and I generally just close my eyes whenever I ride in a car...I will get my license today!
Up until today I have been completely dependent on Sean to pick me up and take me places which is tricky as he has had to work since we have been back from 10am to 7pm. I have met some really nice women and have had many offers of rides and having time to get to know other people! I attended the women's Bible study yesterday and met a lot of really cool women and have been able to really connect with one of the other wives! She is from Solvianna and is just really cool and it's been fun to learn about another culture!
I have been walking around the base with several bags (because Sean has the car a ways away) and talking to people about jobs and finding out about volunteering. I have been told by almost everyone I've asked that jobs are very difficult to get on this base more so then others as they have a contract with the Italians that make the base hire more Italians (I guess the Air Force's lawyers weren't so good...they needed Hannah!). So I have several opportunities in which I have met and networked but the problem is that I am not allowed to work until I get my visa...I do not yet have my visa. We have called back over to Buckley in Colorado in which they had previously told us a maxium of two weeks or ten days are now saying that it can take a year but they are going to contact the embassy and see where we are at in the process. Once I get my visa I can then work on base but it will have to be networking until then and volunteering which I have been told is the best way to get a job here.
It is absolutely beautiful here as it's been in the 60's or 70's but the only bummer is that there is humidity and I miss that dry Colorado air along with friends and family. I am loving it here though and love the country from what I have seen! By the way...did not realize there were so many lizards all around the place and the kitties love to watch them!
Today I am set to go and get my drivers license as I sat through the class and am now traumatized (they show accident scene after accident scene...fear tatics yuck) and have taken my test. And then I will go and talk with the chaplin on base about some positions in the chapel that I can volunteer with or there may be a contract position openning up. Then off to the gym before Sean gets off at 7.
Hope you are all doing well and would love to here from you!
